Training & Development in the Workplace

In the ever-developing corporate world, training and development is an indispensable function, presenting a prime opportunity to expand the knowledge base of all employees. Although usually at the cost of both monetary value and the irreplaceable ‘time away’ factor, however, training and development are highly beneficial allowing employees to acquire new skills, sharpen existing ones, increasing productivity and become better leaders within their roles.

Despite the potential drawbacks, training and development provide both the company and employees with benefits that make the cost and time a worthwhile investment.

Employee Satisfaction

A company that invests in and arranges industry and role specific training and development tend to have employees that are more satisfied. Training and development make employees feel valued and create a supportive workplace. Employees who feel appreciated and challenged through training opportunities may feel more satisfaction toward their role within the business.

Improved Employee Performance

An employee who receives the necessary training is better able to perform their job. Not only does training and development equip employees with new skills, but it also tackles possible shortcomings and weaknesses. It is therefore important to arrange role-specific training and development to help employees overcome the possible weakness and fulfil their roles better due to new skill acquisition.

Consistency

A structured training and development programme ensures progressive and consistent learning. The consistency of training and development will also refresh employees of company policies, expectations and procedures.

Self-Driven Employees

An employee who receives value-driven training naturally requires less supervision and guidance. Training develops the necessary skill set to work more productively and more independently.

Orientation

It is important never to neglect internal training. Internal training is particularly important for new employees, which serves as a platform to address the processes of the company as well as tackle any skill gaps.
